Domain Name Questions and Answers

Some common questions you might have regarding registering a domain name through us. If you still need answers, feel free to CONTACT US.

Your prices are for domain name registrations are pretty good, but I've found some other companies that are cheaper. Why should I register through you?

Recently, the business of domain name registrations has become very competitive. When choosing a company to register your domain name, you should consider the following:
  • Is the company established? Everyday, new sites pop up on the internet offering domain name registration services at almost unbelievable prices. It's not uncommon for the company/site to suddenly disappear in a few months ... usually re-appearing under a different domain/company name. Remember, your domain name is your online identity for your web site. Without it, your site cannot be accessed. Would you trust your domain name registration with a company that might not exist in several months?
  • Is that low price realistic? A rock-bottom price for a domain name might seem great at first, but consider how that registration company may be operating in order to offer such prices. With the competitiveness of domain name registrations, many companies risk over extending themselves to draw business. In promoting low prices that do not cover operating expenses, they risk financial problems down the road. Is saving a few dollars on a yearly registration worth the possibility of losing control of your domain name if the company folds?
  • Where are they located? If you check the domain name of the company (a "whois" lookup"), you may find out that they are actually hosted in a country that has very little regulation to protect you against internet fraud. Beware of any company whose own domain name record shows an email contact address through a free web-based email account (i.e. Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.). Review any site that you might consider using to register a domain name and look for information on where they are actually located (You should really do this with any site you'll be doing business with). Don't be surprised if it's not even mentioned!
  • Does the company operate responsibly? Even a few established registrars have resorted to underhanded tactics in regards to domain names as reported in The Wall Street Journal, ComputerWire and others. Some have resorted to "spamming" (unsolicted commercial bulk email) to market their services, hoping to grab sales. Would you trust a company that uses deceitful marketing?
Are there any additional fees than those listed when registering a domain name?
Absolutely not! The prices we list for domain name registration are your cost to secure a domain name registration. Beware of any company that lists a registration fee and then a separate "InterNIC" fee!
When I register a domain name through you, is it really mine?
When registering a domain name, the registrant obtains control of the domain name for the registration period ... you could say you own it, but keep in mind that if it is not renewed, another party can then register it for their use. Some companies offer registration services to customers, but actually register it in their own name maintaining full control. When registering a domain name through us, YOU have full control and can modify the domain name record whenever you like. If you decide to register your domain name through another company, be sure you are the actual registrant and have full control!
How do I renew my domain name registration that was originally through your company ... I received a notice in the mail?
We only send renewal notices to the billing email address listed on your domain name registration. Reminders are sent by domain-registrations.org/OpenSRS. To renew your domain name registered through us, please CLICK HERE.

IMPORTANT: We NEVER send notices by mail (Postal channels/snail mail). If you received a renewal notice through regular mail it is an attempt to move your domain name registration away from our service - DO NOT SIGN OR RETURN IT! - In doing so, your registration will be placed in risk and you'll most likely be charged a higher renewal fee. If I register a domain name through your service, do I have to host my web site with your company?
The registration of domain names is totally separate from hosting. While we sure hope you'll host your site with us, there is no requirement to use our hosting service when registering a domain name through us.
I've registered a domain name through your service along with hosting, are there any fees for me to change to another hosting company?
None at all. As mentioned, the registration of domain names is totally separate from hosting. Having your domain name associated with another hosting service is easily done through the management interface located at http://domain-registrations.org. You simply use the nameserver entries provided by the hosting company that you will be using.
